Transmedia Proposal
The following section details the proposal of our transmedia approach.
First Ideas
• A story that explores the relationship between the Red and the White Queen and why the White Queen came to inherit the throne. This would be a campaign surrounding the prequel story.
• A sequel that references Alice’s journey in the real world, perhaps her travels to china. It would be a campaign geared toward a sequel that’s a little further in the future, and the transmedia experience would bridge the gap between the end of the first movie and the beginning of the next one.
• A campaign surrounding the empowerment of women, aimed at a young to young adult age range, involving the different characters from Wonderland.
• Bringing Wonderland characters into the real world.
Conclusion Research
Alice in Wonderland plays around with a lot of themes; it clearly employs a lot of semiotics and leaves the audience with plenty of questions as evidenced by our hermeneutic analysis. One of the most commonly observed questions is how things will turn out for Alice. While working through our hermeneutic analysis, we too began to wonder that, and then we began to speculate on what adventures she might embark on next. Furthermore, the hermeneutics surrounding “Why is a Raven like a Writing Desk?” inspired us greatly, for it involved the real world and Wonderland’s place in our world as a source of escapism. In our quest to combine the idea of Alice going on a new adventure and making Wonderland a ‘real’ concept in our world, an idea started to form:
What if Alice did not return to her own time and place, but instead ended up in our timeline?
and more importantly:
What if she didn’t arrive alone?

Soon we began to speculate about the implications of having Wonderland characters in our own world. On the one hand, there are many bright and colourful characters, but on the flipside there are plenty of dangerous individuals such as the Red Queen. Tim Burton’s movies clearly cater to an older audience than the original disney movie with their dark themes and muted pallettes, and we are happy to cater to this older audience. During this transmedia production we will be exploring a gritty, horror-esque timeline in which:
• We will explore a new side of the Red Queen, one that resonates well with the people of our world. The Red Queen finds out that she enjoys our world more than Wonderland, and becomes a powerful individual hellbent on destroying the world that hurt her so.
• Alice finds herself a captive by the the Red Queen and her new following.
• The White Queen and her followers are in a race against the clock to save Alice, Wonderland and the fate of our world in a time where people wish for more freedom.

Our idea puts the Red Queen in a light that will hopefully resonate with the audience. We hope to create a divide in the audience near the beginning, sparking a discussion between people; those who follow the orderly white queen and those who follow the free-fought red queen whose cries for anarchy grow louder as the campaign wears on.
